Retention and deletion
Retention periods, deletion procedures and statutory retention obligations.
Updated:
This article summarises the retention periods applied by the service. Each period corresponds to a constant in the source code and is verified automatically.
Mailboxes
A suspended mailbox retains all data and continues to receive mail. A deleted mailbox stops receiving, releases its address and remains recoverable for 30 days, after which it is permanently destroyed.
Backups
Backups are retained for 30 days. The two periods are cumulative: a mailbox deleted today is purged after 30 days, and the last backup containing it expires at approximately day 60. The cumulative figure is the applicable one.
Backups are not selectively modified. Where a restore would reinstate purged mailboxes, the purge is re-executed before the system returns to service.
Statutory retention
Invoices and accounting records are retained as required by tax law, which is provided for in data protection legislation. These records contain the company name, address, tax number and amounts paid. They do not contain correspondence, files or calendar data.
Termination of service
On termination, data is either deleted or returned, at the customer's election. Export is available within every deletion window.
